Team Pat, Champions, February 8, 2011
4 on 4 Weekly Basketball Challenge

Team Pat (above) defeated Team Streeter (below) in the double elimination championship round, February 8, 2011.

As we move closer to our first anniversary of this weekly tournament in March, I want to thank the players, Pastor James Parker, and Ms. Brenda Thomas (Director of C-Club Gym) for the incredible fun and support.  I look forward to seeing the regular players and meeting new players each week.  It is important for all readers to understand that these players are competitive and respectful of each other.  They have done what a lot of communities and cities are unable to do - that is to play tough basketball without officials and without one incident.  They resolve tough calls and enjoy each other's company after the competition is over.  If you get the opportunity to come by the gym, show your support.

Now, we are looking for volunteers to further organize this weekly event.  We must show progress and organization to make this or any event last.

Mrs. Brenda Thomas (Director of C-Club Gym) and Pastor James Parker are wonderful supporters and mentors.  They are the insiders and consistent faces - in the community - for the youth and players to reach out to and I am happy to join their team.

It is good seeing the young people gather at the gym to socialize and cheer for the players on the court.  They show all the excitement expected when an incredible play is made.

The next step is to capture video excerpts of the games for the world to witness.  These players are good!  We look forward to seeing you each Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

I believe adults have the greatest responsibility to prepare the next generation to achieve more than we were able to accomplish.  We cannot allow them the comfort to settle for the same accomplishments.  That's not good enough.  We need to share with them our assessments and lead them, in a positive way, to build on the successes and weaknesses we leave behind.  We must mentor.  We must set the example.  We must give positive time.  We must parent.  We must share history and experiences. We must reinforce.  We must educate.  We must DO!!!!!
