Armed Forces Day of Diversity: Celebrating 57 Years of Integration From 1954 to 2011

On October 30, 1954 the Secretary of Defense announced that the Armed Forces had completed its mission to integrate the services though two quartermaster/transportation units remained segregated.  This action was based on President Harry S. Truman's decision to initiate Executive Order 9981 - July 26, 1948 - mandating the end of segregation and discrimination in our nation's armed forces.  The following pictures will depict an initiative by Columbus Forward to celebrate the actions that made our nation's defense services reflect one nation - one defense - one fight.
